The KikkiPlanet.com Christmas Challenge

 The holiday season is upon us, and although I count many Scrooge types amongst my closest friends, there is an undeniable secret joy in this season, even amongst the most “bah, humbug-iest” of them.

Since its inception, KikkiPlanet.com has issued one call to action: Get up, get out, get involved. With the onset of the 2011 Christmas surge, we now issue what we consider to be our challenge of the year. We hope as many businesses, organizations, families and individuals in Edmonton as possible will join us in our “Christmas Pledge”.

‘Tis the season to be jolly, but ‘tis also the season to consider those in need. With that in mind our challenge to every able citizen and business of Edmonton is as follows:

In this time of office Christmas parties, get togethers with friends and family gatherings, we challenge each and everyone of you to turn any event you attend, organize, host or sponsor into a “Give Back” moment. It’s an entirely simple idea that can make a profound difference in our city.

Here is what we have in mind:

Having an office party? Ask each attendee to bring something for the Edmonton Food Bank. Just imagine the difference we could make for the food bank if every office party in the city resulted in a donation.

Family gathering? As opposed to the “Chinese Gift Game”, ask invitees to bring a toy donation for Santas Anonymous, or a bag of diapers for the Terra Center, or required items for any worthy cause that needs our help.

Single and alone on Christmas Day? Round up some single buddies and head downtown to hand out sandwiches, hot chocolate and cheer to the homeless on our streets. Gather gently used coats, mittens and toques to hand out along with the food outside the Hope Mission.

Giving back is like brushing your teeth – it’s an everyday thing. But at this time of year, when the spirit of the season is in our hearts and we are surrounded by family and loved ones, we have the opportunity to turn that love of family and friends and sense of appreciation for all we have into a tangible result for those who have less.

Please, accept our challenge. Add your name, your business, and its website link, your organization, your event to the comments below by stating “WE ACCEPT THE KIKKIPLANET.COM CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE!” Tweet this page as much as possible. Create your own FB event! Challenge other businesses and friends to do the same. Challenge your coworkers, your family, your Twitter followers, your Facebook friends near and far! Turn every gathering this season into a “Give Back Event”. Come up with your own unique event and we’ll promote it through #yegenda. Share your story of how your office, family or group of friends gave back this season and we’ll post it on the site.  Send us your “in the act of giving back” photos and we’ll post those, too!

    I accept the Kikkiplanet.com Christmas challenge! Since I’m single and we don’t have any office parties, I’ll be spending Christmas day volunteering!

    CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! ACME Meats will be collecting donations for Edmonton’s Food Bank throughout the month of December and we then pledge to match the donations made by our wonderful customers! The greatest gift is to give! Merry Christmas

    So it seems odd to me to accept a “challenge” that is, in essence, my norm. But I’ll help spread the word & continue to celebrate the season as we normally would.

    Not only do I accept your challenge, I also pledge to see what I can get out of myself, my company, and also Sugar Swing dance club :) Perhaps this is something Wino book club could make a pledge on – each of us bring something for donation at the December party?

    I excitedly accept the kikkiplanet.com Christmas Challenge! Since I don’t have an office party to attend, I plan on spending some time and money giving back in the city of Edmonton!

    Because Edmonton Cares ACCEPTS THE KIKKIPLANET.COM CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE!  We already have a car full of donations we’ve collected for The Mustard Seed. Next week we’re helping work on the sets for the Stollery’s Snowflake Gala. The week after that we’re decorating the Christmas trees at the Ronald McDonald House and wrapping presents at Santas Anonymous.  Plus for my DD’s birthday next week we’ve asked people to not bring her gifts and instead bring food, and toy donations for the Humane Society.

    Challenge accepted… and we didn’t even know it! Meet-Up Mamas (Spruce Grove) has teamed up with Modern Mama #yeg and mamapalooza.ca to host an Christmas party for moms! ALL proceeds from this event are being donated to the Samaritan’s Purse, the charity supported by our location hosts, Dolce Vita Homes! CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
